1.1.14 – Describe strategies for managing releases and updates
There are several ways in which updates can be made available.
Patches
These are used by software companies to update applications by fixing known bugs and vulnerabilities. Be aware that, patches may introduce new bugs as side effects.
Upgrades
These always contain novel functionalities or characteristics, as well cumulative bug fixes. In most cases upgrades need to be bought
Updates
These improve a product in a minor way by adding new functionalities or fixing known bugs. In most cases updates are free.
Releases
These are final, working versions of software applications. These applications have already gone through alpha and beta software testing. Releases relate to new or upgraded applications.
